Yunus Lasania – Founder

Originally founded in 2016 as a simple blog to create awareness about Hyderabad’s heritage, The Hyderabad History Project is Yunus Lasania’s tribute to express his undying love for his city.

A journalist and oral historian by profession, founder Yunus Lasania’s fascination (and perhaps obsession) with Hyderabad blossomed into The Hyderabad History Project after he began writing about his city’s heritage in 2016. His news reports on the city’s monuments soon led him into a rabbit hole which helped him rediscover his city and the love for it.

Extraordinary Experiences – Why We Are Different

Having realised that finding authentic information about his city was not easy, and also due to a general lack of awareness about heritage, the ethos behind starting The Hyderabad History Project was to provide factual information and to make others understand why it is important to preserve our heritage.

The Hyderabad History Project soon became well-known thanks to its Instagram page and Yunus’s heritage walks which began in 2017. In fact, we can proudly say that since then, come rain or shine, our public walks are held every weekend without fail. Being one of the earliest people to conduct heritage walks in the city, our project today also extends outside of Hyderabad, and across the entire Deccan. Our expertise does not stop at just architecture and history, as we believe in providing global context to local stories – how travel across the ages has shaped and impacted our cities. We promise that you will fall in love with Hyderabad! More importantly, with over 400 years of layered-history, Hyderabad has also accumulated its own set of legends and stories. We believe in keeping an open mind as history is not linear and hence, weaving in stories are also equally important.
